My Idol, Dolly Parton said it right..."If you wanna have the rainbow, you've gotta put up with the rain."

dVerse - Taboo subjects! I like this idea...here is what I wrote:

OUR COUNTRY

Well here you are in Canada, a Country that is free
A Country that allows us, to be all we want to be
We're proud to live in Canada, our home and native land
I just don't understand how people, can change things on demand

People from other countries come here for, life and security
But then go and change our laws,  that's what bother's me
We can't say "Merry Christmas", who are they to change that?
If they want to live their ways, they should've stayed where they were at!

This is our country with our morals and values
We used to say the Lord's Prayer, in school - it is true!
And now that is no longer and we can't even say "GOD"
I wish the people running this country - would end this poor facade!

I'm not a prejudiced person, I believe we're all the same
But I can't say that I'm happy of the country we've became
We're bowing down to other cultures, while they laugh in our face
Because they're getting what they want and I think it's a disgrace!

If we went to other countries, we'd have to abide by their rules
And we would out of respect, because us Canadians are cool
We wouldn't whine or complain as that's just the way it is
Get over it all you other countries - if Canada's where you want to live

So what's it going to take to get our country back on track?
And get our laws in order as well as our backbone back?
I'm proud to be a Canadian, and I welcome any hand
But this is OUR country, you live the rules of OUR land!

  2. I do understand where you are coming from... sometimes I think we bend over backwards too much to other cultures and countries in an effort to reach out and accommodate immigrants.

  3. "love and tolerance, love and tolerance," I chant in my head as my blood pressure rises, my jaws and fists clench and I feel your frustration. "love and tolerance, love and tolerance..." (smiles) You definitely picked a highly taboo topic. Thanks for playing with us today :)

  4. The 'Merry Christmas' ban is outrageous. We have the same problem down under and it is worse in England.

Bugger that I say...let us have Christmas!

  5. Banning most things is outrageous. Topsy Turvy should be the name of the planet.

  6. We are in Canada, so we say Merry Christmas if we want to...even if it's not PC. And we decorate a Holiday tree, and we don't wear hat's out of respect at our Legions...we are such a melting pot, we will never ever keep everyone happy. Banning is outrageous...do what ye will and harm none...I'd be more than happy to ring in every holiday, celebrate every day of worship, but alas...even that outlook is frowned upon. There's certainly no happy medium. Way to tackle the prompt, Mindy! Might have to go and write another poem...coloUr me inspired! And I'm leaving that u in there even though spellcheck tells me I'm wrong! Rebel! lol

  7. This is a good one--where to draw the line--or should there be any lines at all?!

  8. Sometimes being the "nice" Canadian isn't what it's all cracked up to be. There are misconceptions that some immigrants have coming here, my parents were immigrants, they were just happy to be free, and they taught us to be Canadian first. But that seems to be ever changing. Very taboo subject, indeed.

  9. You could have been writing about the UK here for it is pretty much the same ; it is so politically correct it is not politically correct to have pride in our country and Christmas will be a thing of the past soon too - sorry I should have said Winterval!

  10. I can certainly relate! In my city in the U.S. we used to have a town Christmas tree, now it's the holiday tree. Drives me nuts. I had no idea Canada had the same issues (and apparently the UK and Australia, too, by the looks of the comments). Peace, Linda
